Understand the gold.
Understand the price.

Buying gold jewelry should feel clear from the beginning. Here is how gold weight, purity, market value, and the premium for each piece come together at OrangeChickenGold.

The foundation

How 24K gold jewelry is priced

There are two parts to a piece's price: the estimated value of its gold and the premium above that value. Understanding both helps you compare pieces with confidence.

01 / GOLD CONTENT

Weight & purity

The amount of fine gold in a piece depends on its gold-bearing metal weight and fineness. Check the individual listing for the stated purity, construction, and any testing notes.

02 / MARKET REFERENCE

The spot price

The gold spot price is a market reference commonly quoted per troy ounce. We use it to estimate the value of a piece's gold content at the time of the quote.

03 / THE FINISHED PIECE

The premium

The premium is the difference between estimated gold content value and our selling price. It can reflect craftsmanship, design, sourcing, availability, and the costs of running the business.

A clearer comparison

What does “premium above gold value” mean?

If a piece has an estimated gold content value of $4,000 and a selling price of $4,600, the premium is $600, or 15% above that gold value.

That difference is not the same as profit. It can include costs incurred to obtain and offer the finished piece, along with the retailer's margin.

Compare jewelry with similar purity, weight, construction, and detail. A lower premium is one consideration; the piece itself matters, too.

A simple pricing breakdown

Estimated gold content value $4,000
Selling price $4,600
Premium above gold value $600
Premium percentage 15%

These figures explain the calculation. They are not a current gold quote or an offer for a specific product. Applicable tax and shipping are additional.

Behind the numbers

How is gold melt value estimated?

A gold content estimate uses the weight of the gold-bearing metal, its fineness, and the spot price per gram of pure gold.

Metal weight in grams × gold fineness × spot price per gram = estimated gold content value

For example, .9999 fine gold uses a fineness of 0.9999. A spot quote per troy ounce is divided by 31.1034768 to convert it to a price per gram. Stones and other non-gold materials should not be counted as gold weight.

This estimate is sometimes called “melt value.” It is a reference for the metal content, not a guaranteed payout. A buyer's offer may differ because of testing, refining costs, market conditions, and their buying terms.

Before you choose

Gold pricing questions, answered

Why does gold jewelry cost more than its melt value?

Melt value estimates the gold content alone. A finished chain or pendant also involves design, manufacturing, finishing, and sourcing. The selling price reflects both the metal and the finished piece.

Does the product price change automatically with gold spot?

A changing spot quote can change a displayed gold-value estimate and premium comparison. It does not automatically change the product's listed selling price. Check the current listing and confirm your final order total before paying.

Why can two 24K pieces have different premiums?

Design complexity, craftsmanship, construction, sourcing cost, and availability can all differ. Always read each listing's weight and purity details when comparing a chain, pendant, or other piece.

Does the gold value include shipping or sales tax?

No. The gold content estimate and premium comparison exclude shipping and tax. Confirm any applicable charges in your checkout or invoice before completing payment. Fully insured shipping is available within the United States.

Can I ask about the price of a piece?

Absolutely. Contact OrangeChickenGold with the product you are interested in to discuss pricing and available payment options. Any agreed price should be confirmed before payment.

Can I trade in gold toward a purchase?

Contact us with your item's weight, purity, photos, and the piece you would like to purchase. Trade-in offers are assessed separately and confirmed after verification; the gold content estimate on a product page is not a trade-in or buyback quote.

Can I collect my order in person?

In-person pickup is available by appointment, with a deposit required to reserve your piece. Contact us to arrange pickup and confirm the remaining balance. Shipped orders require full payment before shipment.
